Meet Dr. Sims

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Sims grew up in South Florida, where she first developed her life-long love of outdoor recreation. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree with General Honors from the University of Chicago in 1997. Returning to the Sunshine State, Dr. Sims graduated from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in 2002 and stayed on to complete an Internship in Internal Medicine, Residency in Ophthalmology and Fellowship in Glaucoma.

In search of an area where she and her husband could enjoy their love of trail running, triathlon, cycling and snowboarding, they fell in love with the bounteous opportunities for outdoor recreation in Oregon. Arriving in Eugene, Oregon, in 2007, Dr. Sims began her practice of Ophthalmology, while her husband, Jonathan Sims, MD, joined Radiology Associates, P.C., as a full time radiologist. They have been enjoying raising their two sons in Eugene.

Dr. Sims joined the practice of Drs. Fine, Hoffman and Packer, , in November of 2010. She brought with her expertise in the diagnosis, medical management and surgical treatment of glaucoma. Dr. Sims performs advanced glaucoma procedures including multiple modalities of laser treatment and surgery. Some of these procedures include diode laser trabeculoplasty, selective laser trabeculoplasty, trabeculectomy, Ahmed and Baerveldt shunt implantation, ExPress mini shunt implantation, canaloplasty, endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation and trans-scleral cyclophotocoagulation. Dr. Sims has a strong interest in innovation and is always looking forward to new research opportunities and investigating potentially sight-saving devices at the forefront of glaucoma surgical management.

In addition to glaucoma, Dr. Sims also specializes in cataract surgery. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She performs surgery at the Oregon Eye Surgery Center and Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend. In the office she is available for consultations as well as routine eye exams. Dr. Sims enjoys caring for patients with all types of eye problems, from dry eyes to macular degeneration.

Dr. Sims is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Oregon Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Lane County Medical Society. She provides specialized glaucoma care and welcomes consultations for advanced and refractory cases.
